Dr Lia DiBello, Cognitive Scientist and lead innovator of the FutureView platform, has spent three decades studying how genuine expertise develops. Her central finding is striking: highly skilled project professionals share a common mental model of delivery, in the same way chess grandmasters share a common understanding of the game. That model can be assessed, and it can be developed, but not through passive instruction alone.
FutureView uses immersive simulation environments, what DiBello calls Strategic Rehearsals, to place practitioners inside unfolding delivery scenarios and compress years of on-the-job learning into weeks. Studies across more than 7,000 people at all levels found that learning was accelerated by several months in every case.
This matters because it confirms what the 70/20/10 model has always argued: the majority of genuine capability development happens through experience, not instruction. The problem most organisations face is that real project experience is slow, expensive, and inconsistent. Strategic rehearsal is the methodology that closes that gap.
